I'm a local who has tried this place twice now. The first time back in 2014 was a zero star experience. I kid you not. It was like they scraped the greasy road kill off highway 5 and boiled it in a pot with some lettuce & celery. Couldn't even eat this crap so had to go home and cook myself a decent super... Not what you expect when you dump good money on a restaurant experience. Swore I would never ever go back! So, wife said they are under new ownership and decided to give it another go tonight; June 29, 2016. I would give it 3 stars now. The food was way better, no question; but it's kid's size portions. I ordered an appetizer and a main meal and I still had to go home and cook dinner afterwards! The meal & appy combined were in my opinion, nothing more than an appetizer. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing both times, but this is getting ridiculous! You should not have to go home and make dinner after spending a decent amount of money eating out. Service was mediocre, but I do understand English is their second language. For that I give them A for effort so lets call service pretty good. Right now, I would say if you are looking for a light meal or lunch, you won't be disappointed with the Dduk Bae Kie restaurant. If you've been out all day playing in the mountains, or even mowing the grass in your yard - forget it, or at least order 3 portions of everything. The restaurant itself was very clean, inviting, and had a very pleasant atmosphere. 5 stars there no question. To be perfectly honest, like every small town; eating out in Valemount these days is a total crap shoot! 1/3rd of the places are closed when you go, 1/3rd are under new ownership and chefs; and the other 1/3rd do their very best to take up the slack. At times you never know what you'll end up with on your plate. Guess that is why we hardly eat out anymore and can't wait to go to The Keg in Prince George (always excellent)! I don't mind paying good money for a good meal, but lately it seems we are paying top dollar, and getting table scraps at least half the time; and not just here in Valemount, it's a growing problem I see everywhere! About the only restaurant that is consistent here in Valemount is the Caribou Grill. You pay a pretty penny, but you at least get a good portion of food for your money, it's tasty, the service is always good, and the atmosphere in that log building is worth every cent and then some! The Summit Grill at the Best Western used to be very good as well, but has also dropped the ball over the past year with a poor menu and substandard product. At least they are open when you go however. The little restaurant out at TeteJaune Lodge, also known to locals as the "Riverside Cafe" (20 km north of Valemount) has become an amazing place over the past couple years. Great food, great prices, and eating out on the patio overlooking the Frazer River with the mountain backdrop is hard (dare I say impossible) to beat! Only issue is they are only open in the summer and not on Monday's or Tuesday's. Of course The Swiss Bakery, Funky Goat, & The Gathering Tree all have consistently excellent food that will keep you coming back as well, but I'm talking about dinner dinning experiences in this feedback/review. Sorry, this dragged into more than some feedback on the Dduk Bae Kie restaurant; but I'm proud of Valemount and want others to at least have a good taste while visiting; and a full tummy when they leave our pretty little town. Hope this might help a bit...
